INSITE is an online publication dedicated to the emergent contemporary artwork being created and shared in Philadelphia. We publish reviews, interviews, and critical commentary on the state of the arts in Philadelphia.
INSITE recognizes art as a site of action. We spotlight artists who confront the political, social, and environmental conditions of our time, and we cultivate discourse that both incites transformation and deepens public insight. Our mission is to ensure that art and the conversations that surround it remain critical, accessible, and embedded in everyday life.
Alongside our editorial coverage, INSITE serves as a trusted resource for staying informed about Philadelphia’s galleries, opportunities, and cultural programs.
Values:
Criticality: We believe that art deserves rigorous, thoughtful engagement. Our writing challenges assumptions, sharpens dialogue, and holds space for complexity.
Equity: We prioritize representation, accessibility, and fair compensation for creative labor.
Transparency: We practice honesty and disclosure in editorial decisions, conflicts of interest, and the ethics of cultural critique.
Responsiveness: We understand art as a response to the world around it. Our work is attuned to the urgent political, social, and environmental conditions shaping our world.
Independence: Our editorial decisions are guided by our community, not market influence.
INSITE is a non-profit organization funded in part by the Philadelphia Cultural Fund and through our membership model. We run on a lean budget and are artist-led at our core. We do this work because we love it and do not make a profit.
